Hi all,

https://www.domain.foo returns the following:

---
Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www.domain.foo.
SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.
(Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

The page you are trying to view can not be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem. Alternatively, use the command found in the help menu to report this broken site.
---

Any idea what's cooking? I have not even installed any certs yet. Or is https simply off topic? That would explain, why there is no icon for the SSH manager in CPanel. Feedback most welcome, thanks. Regards, Peter Heinrich Claus.

Using SSL would require a dedicated IP address, which cannot be enabled on a free hosting account. Therefore, it is not possible to use SSL with your account hosted on free hosting.

To use SSL certificates, you will need premium hosting (http://x10premium.com/).

That was quick, thanks. However, while a dedicated IP is the most common situation, I have another site hosted elsewhere -- without dedicated IP -- and SSL/TLS enabled -- and working. I suppose, one way around it would be a shared certificate. However, that would also imply that my key pairs for the root cert no longer match. Well, something like that.

The current hosting setup for free hosting won't work with SSL regardless, although you do have a point that it doesn't require a dedicated IP. The shared cert's we had in the past don't work with our newer setup though; we traded SSL for increased stability.

Fair enough. It's not really affecting anything I keep on x10 -- so I guess the issue has been clarified and thus, solved, thank you. Regards, Peter Heinrich Claus.
