First of all i would like to say that i have found x10 to be the most reliable host anywhere, including the paid ones.

I always try to follow the rules here, so i have no issues in that regard, except when i forget to visit the login page as i should in a timely manner, but that of course is my fault. I dont really need a lot of support up til now and i also realize that help comes with a price, and if i gotta pay i want an upper level domain name.

My question is:
I want to run my VBulletin software here, but cant get it installed properly, why is there no one willing to help me do that?? I know that falls under the category of support maybe, but i also know that for someone who knows how it takes about 10 minutes.

Next, even with the better software im concerned that with the sub-domain i will never be able to attract the volume of traffic that i want because the search engines pretty much ignore my site, even when i use the webmasters tools, on google and bing. the only traffic draw i seem to get is by working twitter, facebook etc. to get traffic by word of mouth and that is simply too time consuming.

So, am i just fooling myself with this sub domain account host, plus i cant install the software i want myself, and no one seems to be willing to help me out there, Should i just spring for a regular hosting company, or do the spiders and people that do look at my site just think it sucks, and move on lol :)

You're not asking for hosting support, but for software support. They aren't the same thing; this isn't really a Free Hosting support issue. I don't do vBulletin, but it wouldn't take very long to configure. The instructions for setting up a MySQL database and user (and password, of course) are here on the wiki. Most of the rest of what you could possibly need for basic configuration is available on the cPanel sidebar.

And yes, your domain does matter. Buying a domain to use (and you can use it here; it's not related to your hosting provider) might be a better idea than splurging on software, but that's not the whole picture either. Content matters, and communities are always going to struggle until they reach a critical mass -- and they'll always be susceptible to collapse if the community is allowed to become toxic.

Any idea you may have gotten from anyone, anywhere, that getting traction and search rankings ought to be easy was a lie. It's hard work (and may cost considerable money) even if you've had the greatest idea ever.

Hello, it is possible to run a vBulletin forum here and get it set up as I have done it before. However, I do not suggest trying to host a vBulletin forum software on ANY type of "FREE" web hosting provider because as your forum grows, it will require much more resources and eventually it will be too much for a free hosting account, and when you would like to move, it is a much harder process. I have had this problem before, but hosting a forum here is completely fine, I did it for a while until I decided to move as my forum grew.

Sub-domain names do work but a regular domain name which is around $10 a year will work the best.

If you are running a forum which is going to stay small, then the free hosting is fine, if you are like me having a site that is growing then I suggest you go for a paid option. x10hosting does have premium hosting which is quite affordable I must say. For me, running a forum I suggest using a VPS.

If you run a successful vBulletin forum, the ad revenue will cover the expenses for the hosting, which is why I suggest investing in paid hosting to start with.

Here is what x10hosting has to offer in terms of paid hosting:

http://x10vps.com

Thanks and good luck.

P.S I did have a forum which used too much resources and got booted off. If you need help with vBulletin installation, although this is Free Hosting Support, I can try my best to help. Unfortunately I only have a vBulletin 3 and 4 license, and not a 5 so I wouldn't know how to install 5 since I moved to XenForo.

Also, we cannot really provide any assistance with your account unless you either:

a) Post from the forum account associated with your hosting account (you can get that info by clicking on the Get Support -> Visit Forums link after logging into the portal), or
b) Post your website URL

Note that for sensitive actions (such as account deletions), you must use your associated forum account, as this is the only way we can truly verify you own a particular account on these forums.
