Hello Support

If I enable cache on my MediaWiki, will it reduce the resource usage?

I keep getting suspended for high resource usage, but would like to know a way of reducing the chances of this happening.

Best regards
Jordan :)

Caching functions are actually the most common culprit in high resource usage. If you can, list all of the plugins and extensions that you have on it and someone will help figure it out.

Hello thank you for your very fast reply!

On MediaWiki I'm using only 5 extensions

- Facebook Connect
- Dynamic Tabs
- FCKeditor
- Google Adsense (for sidebar)
- Google Adsense (for use on page content)

But on my hosting account, I also use WordPress and HESK support.
However I've noticed the high resource usage suspensions have started kicking in after MediaWiki was installed on server.

Best regards
Jordan :)

Hmm it might have been at the limit already and installing MediaWiki made it go over.

What plugins are you running on WordPress?

Hi tech airlines
Hopefully you can fly me to a low resource usage, hehe :)

On WordPress I have the following plugins active:
- Basic SEO
- New Twitter Button
- StatCounter plugin
- Redirection (was already installed)
- SexyBookmarks
- wp-cache (EDIT: This wasn't actually activated)
- WP Touch iPhone (for iPhone or other mobile optimised layouts)

Thank you for your reply :)

2nd Edit: Internal errors are popping up more frequently too. I've made a custom 500 error page though just saying to refresh as this fixes it usually :)

Hmm none of those plugins should be causing issues given that WP-Cache is disabled.

I'm quite sure its the fact that you're running both WordPress and MediaWiki at the same time in addition to the HESK Support software.

Hmm I recommend trying to stay at 2 software running. WordPress is really flexible so you might be able to find a plugin that could add a wiki to it (like this: http://wp-wiki.org/).

Hi again

I was thinking of going premium, but I would be fine with at least 20GB bandwidth and disk space is not an issue yet.
Would going premium eliminate the high resource usage problems ?

Yes, premium hosting has significantly fewer restrictions than free hosting. In addition, there are far fewer users on each server, so there should be less load on the server.

Of course, its still shared hosting, so there are still some restrictions, but what you're trying to run should work fine on premium hosting.

Hmm. *scratches head*
The trouble is, I don't need some of the stuff included with the premium so I feel like it would be wasting it a little bit.
Or can you have multiple domains on one account to get more out of it?

Would be good if it was like pay per feature e.g.
Unlim Bandwidth (+$0.50)
Restriction Free (+$1.00)
Unlim Space (+$0.50)
Daily backups (+$.50)

If you get what I mean :)
