Extractions can take a long time depending on how many files, the content of the files, the type of files, the type of compression, the overall size of the archive, and the current server load from other activities. If your archive failed to extract, try again. If you still can't get it to extract, post back and we will try to troubleshoot the problem further.

I would recommend uploading it via SQL instead of extracting on the server because sometimes it causes a high server load. Meaning you extract it on your computer and upload it via FTP.

Sounds like you're trying to upload a .rar or .7z file. The file must be in .zip format to be extracted by the server.
