Pay for advertsing on google, and links always helps. But the best way to advertise is having a good product to show. If you have a good product the word will spread.

I put the second one. Depending your site it might not be the best. I post links to my best content on ebaumsworld forums. Both my site and his are the same content.

I put the first and second. I don't think people will react too much if they see a flyer for some website ... or at least I wouldn't . Google usually works for me and trading links with sites of similar content gets a few visitors as well.

I'm sure you've already recieved enough suggestions but I would go with trading links with other sites. In my past experience you can also sign up for ranking sites. I think there's a bigger chance of people clicking links at their favorite sites more than searching it on google

I think trading links work well.
Most of the time i dont even bother to read some yahoo and google ads. And who really has time to look at signs on street corners and take the effort to remember the site url?

Affiliating and manually telling people about your site is probably the best method. (especially if the sites are related, so the demographics will already know what they want out of the site)
