do you guys have this service? or do i need to find another place to use this service? cause I have a game running off you guys and i would like to have a place for people to go to contact me while I am online. and i prefer irc chat, well because it is irc chat, and I know how to use most of the functions of IRC, but yet I have no clue what you need to run this service, or even if you guys allow members to utilize these tools. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Its been in discussion, but I don't think anything has become of it. So, at this point in time, No. x10 doesn't have or offer IRC services.

If anyone would like to start up a small IRC server, i am willing to configure and host a small server for you, and i would allow you to be an IRCOp, although, i can't gurantee the stability of it, but...i know pretty basics how to setup a server and keep it running, of course this probably wouldn't be an official x10 hosting server, and it couldn't handle that many users as it's not a fast internet connection, but i am happy to still host this for free, and keep it on 24/7 (apart from issues with the server when it may be down) if anyone else would use this service to chat in general or even ask for support on it. Also, i would probably make all the x10 hosting staff IRCOp's aswell, well if they wanted to participate in this service.

Either Email me at hellsheep.iv(at)gmail(dot)com or pm me here. If you have msn you can also add that email address.

Kind Regards, HeLLshEEp.

This has been brought up a few times about x10 having an IRC server for chatting. There have also been polls on it. I believe the outcome of said polls and discussion was there isn't enough people commenting/responding to know how many would use it and whether it would just be a waste of time. Considering that there is a lot to running an IRC server.

At the moment your best option would be to setup an IRC channel on an existing IRC server. then configure a PHP IRC client on a page on your website and have people contact you that way.

In reply to hellsheep's post earlier. I have actually worked on programming teams for IRCd's. (DALnet servers) and also completely created a wIRCd (Windows IRCd) a long time ago. Users running them would not be the best idea, because of stability issues and so on. I like the other reply, as to just starting a channel somewhere and then using either a java or php based client to connect to it.

Yeah, i totally agree with that, and even if i was going to host it, it would be on one of my old, not so fast boxes, meaning if it did get big, it wouldn't be able to handle it :p

Hello,
Regarding IRC;

@Leucippus: I can help you out

@Hellsheep: If x10hosting is really wishing in acquiring an IRC server, Unrealircd + Anope Services can be installed on one of their servers these services don't take resources.

@GFXDude2010: Not necessary on big networks or well-known networks. And also coolsmile can be easily installed and dont take a lot of resources.

I'm running my IRC network on a vps and a shell. It is not an issue of stability for instant my uptime ( This uptime i got to restart my servers for a new installed modules to take effect else it would have been better ;) This can be cheked ok :p )

Use a Java based client. PHP/CGI clients put unnecessary strain on the server.

I guess I opened an old scar huh? And thanks for all of those that offered to help me set up a chat system. Although I have taken steps towards getting a place set up. And do hope that X10 will set up a IRC server sometime. Going to put my vote in now.

Well the most commin IRC client is mIRC. Most people would probably download it. And for an IRC applet for the site, www.pjirc.com is by far the best java applet that I've found! I've used it many times!

We setup an IRC server a while back, there was not enough interest so it was taken down. If the community really wants one then we can definitely put one in.

I am happy to share the one I have started. A few members have already popped in and are interested in using it. If x10 starts up one, I would like to consider linking networks. :)

Corey & Starshine: I've been on the IRC for 5 years. I know mIRC scripting, and everything about the IRC. I'm a IRCop on 2 servers right now. If you need any help setting anything up, or need help with anything at all, just PM me and I'll be glad to help! ;)
