Hello. I'm wondering if Port 465 is open for outgoing SMTP emails. I'm using an SMTP Plugin for Wordpress which was set to send mail through Gmail servers.

My settings are set to:
Host: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Encryption Type: SSL
Authentication: Yes
Username: wp@techairlines.com
Password: (password here)

"SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection timed out (110)"

It worked before the migration although now I'm receiving a Connection Timed Out error and the plugin author suggests to ask the host if the port is open.

Thanks.

Did you enable pop and stmp in your gmail cPanel? If you are using google apps, the information is different..

Try this: http://groups.google.com/group/hosted-the-basics/browse_thread/thread/3d410c57b7920fa2?pli=1

Google apps port is 587

user@domain.com:password@smtp.gmail.com:587

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: pop.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS or SSL: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587
Port for SSL: 465

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS or SSL: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587
Port for SSL: 465

This was already enabled in Google Apps cpanel:
Outbound relay-
Allow users to send mail through an external SMTP when configuring a "from" address hosted outside your domain.

When I try Port 587 with SSL, I get SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: (0).
If I try 587 with TLS, I still get SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: (0).

Basically, Port 465 times out and 587 doesn't provide any reason.

I've also tried using Port 25 as suggested by a Google help page, but I still get Connection Timed out. I checked all my settings to make sure they're correct and enabled. Any one know if this is a server side issue or my side or perhaps something with Gmail?
