I don't think that SSL will work, but you can try it.

How do you know it isn't attempting to send using the regular settings?

Because I am not getting any emails, and upon checking the error log, there is no error that indicates that it tried and failed. So that means it isn't even doing anything.

And if I am not supposed to use SSL, then I am using the correct settings which arent working. Does "staff+ipodtouchforum.exofire.net" sound like a username to you? I think that might be the problem, but that's what the email settings page says to use.

That is correct, as weird as it looks. Let me install phpbb on my site so I can try to troubleshoot this for you.

Wow, thanks a billion for actually caring enough to do that. I appreciate that a lot.

Not sure if it's worth anything, but I gave you some of my points. ;)

What type of login did you use? PLAIN or LOGIN?

PHP Notice: in file /includes/functions_messenger.php on line 446: mail() has been disabled for security reasons

Looks like this is your problem. The settings work correctly with SMTP set to NO but mail() is blocked right now. Looks like you have to submit a ticket

Huh, I have never gotten that error. Guess I'll submit a ticket about it. I'll report back when they respond.

I got it a few times in my error log. And using SMTP / fsockopen() times out.
