When I log into my website all I see is the index and not the actual site. What am I doing wrong?

you need an index.html or index.php in the main directory of your addon domain or main domain. Meaning if you use an addon domain named tech
you would need to place that file in

home/public_html/tech/

whereas if that is your main domain you would have to place it in

home/public_html

This indicates that you have no files uploaded. If you upload files to your public_html directory as mattblog said, it will display on your domain without the index page.
