I have absolutely nothing in my cPanel, no site, nothing installed, yet that inode thing says
inodes 1,706 / 50,000
how is that possible, 1706 is a lot of files ??

Check the File Manger with "Show Hidden Files (dotfiles)" box checked. Please keep in mind that inodes are files, folders and symlinks.

Apparently my reply from the 11th didn't post either (thank's PC); a good cause of inodes I found on my own account was emails - each email is one, and since I had cronjobs sending me emails when they ran every 15 minutes, it very quickly stacked up quite a few of inodes I didn't even know were there. If you've got any cronjobs going and have it set up to email you in cPanel, that could be causing it to go up a good amount.
