Hello Everyone.

3 years ago when I bought my laptop I was researching preserving battery life span. My aim for laptops is portability more than battery life but I figured why not make it last as long as possible. Generally I always have my laptop plugged in but I found an article that said this about preserving battery life.

This is for Lithium Ion batteries.

Discharge the battery completely.
Charge it to 100%.
Discharge to about 60%-70%.
Remove the battery and you can store it away for a month. Make sure to store in a dry cool place but not below 4degrees C (I think). Something about heat and cold affects the life.

After one month, put in the battery and repeat the cycle to store for another month.

I have been doing this for the past 3 years and it seems to work a treat. From the day I bought the laptop till today, battery time is around 2 hours (Yes it is THAT short) or 30 minutes of gaming :)

I don't know why but they said not to store away the battery when it is at 100%. But make sure to discharge to around 60%-70% before putting into storage.

Did you check out my post? Download Prime95 as your laptop is charging. As soon as it hits 98%-100% charged, fire up Prime95 to the Maximum Heat, Maximum Power test and unplug the laptop. Repeat the cycle a few times and you might just see battery life come back. Make sure Windows is set to the "Always On" or "Maximum Performance" profile and that it will not turn anything off, or put it to sleep. The machine while running Prime95 must remain fully on and awake :)

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 now. :)

Has anyone got experience of new laptop batteries from China on eBay? Numerous suppliers have the ones for mine (E-system 3089) in both 2200maH and 4400maH versions at prices starting at UK£28 including postage.

Well now I've learn't my lesson. 2200mAh battery ("Original and Genuine") arrived from China after 2 weeks. Fitted to laptop and it powered up fine showing 30% charge and 38 minutes remaining. Placed on charge and got suspicious when the charge indicator went green after less than an hour. Unplugged the mains and guess what - dead as a dodo. Not a volt in sight!! Repeated the exercise with the laptop fired up and the Windows charge indicator went from 8% to 100% charged, again in less than an hour. Pulled the mains plug and bye bye. No charge whatsoever. Good job I paid with PayPal as I reckon I have a fair chance of getting a refund!!
