AJAX will definitely help you if your page(in future) excluding the "slideshow images" is heavy.

Store images on Google pics, I used to do that for my eBay account to sell macs.
*Multiple connections to many servers if always better than to one server alone.

Site Overall looks great, I like how its easy to navigate to the art style page you want. Its just my opinion but, make a main a container to hold the - left Folumn |Center Image| Right Column - All in one and have a different background color other then brown so the middle
(example white container holds L.Column |Center Image| R.Column) Maybe this will give you some idea http://960.gs/

Also Change the lower case to upper Case for the category Name.
