Looking for password protect script

Hi, right now i am developing a website for a non-profit organization known as CollegeBoundOnline,

can someone help me design a password protect script (PHP) so that members can log into a private area, can register them self, and each page they go to (after logging in) their name will appear on top of each page, and they can edit their account info.

example, is x10hosting, something like forum registration can be good for the site registration, or http://kaptest.com website

Can you not just use some sort of forum software and require admin activation on accounts. You can set any forum board to deny access to any guests or users who are not logged in.
