Yesterday, I was having a problem with \' showing up on my PHP site where regular plain old apostrophe's should have been. (ex: What\'s).
I tracked it down, and found that variable's were automatically being escaped, where as it hadn't before. Considering I made no coding change to my site, I figured x10hosting might have a PHP setting on that made this change. Sure enough, the PHP Magic Quotes feature was turned on. Turning it off through .htaccess fixed the problem.
Why is a deprecated feature turned on, and why now?
