Late last week Motorola South Africa announced the release of three of it's Linux-based cellphones locally. The A910, A728 and the A732 phones run a combination of Linux and Java and are in line with announcements that the company expects to release as many as 10 new Linux-based smart phones this year.
For Motorola the attraction to Linux appears to be a combination of low-cost and a sense that the speed of open source development will put Linux-based smart phones at the head of the pack in coming years.
