its still a work in progress  but is there any "must have" features for a blog?

on the other hand is there any features I have on there that is a blogging sin?

I am aware that my css is incompatible with internet explorer but that is something I will look at later.

I made this using textpattern...its just a back end meaning the design was entirely my doing giving me a lot of freedom.

First thing I noticed is that there's not breathing space between your content blocks. Main content column and the right sidebar are almost touching and images don't have any space around them that should separate them form the content (text).

The other problem is that you used the same color and styling for all text elements. There is no much differences between titles, links and regular text and that's not good (believe me I know what I'm talking about). You have to visually separate different types of text.

Your main navigation menu looks like a subtitle or slogan mainly because there is no separation between menu items. Simply add a " | " character between them if you don't have any other idea. Menu items have to have some kind of separator between theme even if it is a few blank spaces.

Thanks :) exactly the kind of criticism I was looking for (constructive) I have added | between navigation links. Could you suggest a colour for the links, the reason they are all grey is because I could not think of a better colour 8)

..I will sort out the spacing when I re-do the css for internet explorer :)

You used blue in your header for blog name background. I guess you should stick to that. Try this one: #16a1df

Now, this is probably just an old fart being altogether too picky, but there's an unfortunate coincidence between the gaps between the boards in your background image and the left edge of both the main and sidebar columns, at least at the resolution I'm using. Optically, it looks like a black border placed too close to the text content (it sits about 5-6 pixels inboard of the left edge of the semitransparent background for the content block). It can be fixed by using a center position for the background-attachment, though you might have to offset the seamless pattern a few pixels horizontally to make sure that the block edges land in the middle of a plank at all times. Again, that may just be nit-picking. I am, after all, a cranky old fart.

:) not picky at all, I actually had not thought of that being a problem. I will try and sort this when I make the blog internet explorer happy.

and thanks for the colour suggestion for the links
