My Files Have Vanished

I recently performed an upgrade of Wordpress on my site a few days ago. Once I'd applied the upgrade the HTTP server went down, when it came back a lot of my data was missing, i.e. deleted from my space. This in turn caused my wordpress installation to break and resulted in me re-installing a lot of things I couldn't remember the names of.

Any idea where my data could have gone, or why it might vanish without my intervention??

Apologises if this is seen as a re-published article, but for some reason, I created this this morning, and it was placed into someone elses post, it wasn't even a post I was reading :nuts:

No reason for this to happen, are you sure you didn't delete them?

Very sure mate, I was performing an upload at the time. Plus the files that vanished were totally random, it wasn't even in directories I was working in...
