Mysql errors

I keep getting this error on my site due to MySQL:

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111) [2002]

Can this problem be fixed please?

Thank you very much. However, I am having other problems. It appears my site thinks it is march of 2010. Can the server be corrected so that my site shows the right time? I know the site is fine, it's the time that it retrieves from the server that seems to be wrong.
