MySQL is failing to connect to the database through the hostname "localhost" is there an alternative hostname for such server please? Thank you

no, localhost should work fine.
make sure you created database user in cPanel and link it with database with all privileges.

"localhost" is correct.
However, I see another problem. The following MyBB error message appears on your website. And the message contains instructions on how to correct the problem:

MyBB has experienced an internal error and cannot continue.
Error Type:
MyBB Error (43)
Error Message:
The install directory (install/) still exists on your server and is not locked. To access MyBB please either remove this directory or create an empty file in it called 'lock'.

Try correcting that issue. If you are still having difficulties after that post back and we will assist you farther.
