Hi there,

I am hosting a website for my friends and family using x10 (best hosting ever!) but I was wandering what the limits are to the content I can upload.

Here is a list of things I want to upload. If there are any of the following that I am not allowed, could you please tell me and I won't publish them. Thanks

1. Music that I have bought that I want to share with the rest of my family and a few friends.
2. Home videos from holidays etc. that people can come to my website to watch. (Files will be HD so maybe 100-200MB)
3. A Modpack for a game called Minecraft that I want to share with my friends
4. Some of the codices for a strategy game called Warhammer 40k for my friends to read online. They will be pdf format.
5. Joomla. (from softaculas)
6. Speedtest mini for users to check speed.
7. A php script for a forum were users will be able to talk and also upload small attachments to a post if needed
8.

There is also another thing I would like to know...

There is an 'ICT Club' at the local school and I would like to know if I could upload a php script to allow the students to upload small project files (less than 15MB) to a folder on the server so they can access them and work on their part of the project at home. If I could upload that script it would be great because all other file sharing websites on the internet are not allowed because they are filtered out by a proxy.

I want to know because I don't want to get my account suspended.
If I am not allowed any of these things I will gladly not upload them.

Thanks in advanced,

I suggest that you read the TOS: http://x10hosting.com/terms

1. No. That is copyright infringement. You cannot upload somewhere else and link to it for download to your site either because it's contributory copyright infringement and that's also against the law and x10hosting's TOS.

2. You can do that, but there is a 1 GB maximum limit in total for all videos together in your site. I recommend that you upload to a place like youtube, instead, and then embed the videos into your webpage.

3. File hosting, that includes game file hosting, is a violation of TOS.

4. The game file hosting applies to this too, as well as copyright infringement. The publisher and game maker needs to give you explict permission to do this. Otherwise, it's a violation of TOS, and the law.

5. Yes. You can install Joomla from Softaculous.

6. I'll have to ask the admin about this to make sure this isn't a violation of TOS concerning file/script hosting. I only think it's okay, because while researching this, it looks like it's completely free, and if you have this linked to in your site, I don't think it's script hosting. If it uses up all of your allotted resources for the hour too fast, I'd recommend that you remove the script to stop it from taking your site offline.

7. As long as the attachments don't share copyright material, then I believe that this is fine.

Again, file hosting is not allowed, to the students uploading small project files violate the file hosting section of the TOS. x10hosting is not for file hosting for third-party nor is it for file sharing. There are exceptions, of course, such as if you made your own script or program (that doesn't violate TOS itself of course), and you can link to it for download from your site to sell or give it away. The main concern is that the TOS clearly says that third-party hosting services are not allowed in your hosting account.

Really, you should read the TOS. It's not very long at all, and it's in very plain and clear language, very easy to understand and follow.

Edit: I've gone to look at your site, briefly, only to find that you've already uploaded most of what you are asking about. You have 24 hours from my reply here to remove all copyright material from your site. If it is not removed from your site, then you risk your hosting account receiving a permanent suspension.

Ok thanks for your help. I have removed the files from the server using file zilla. Although I won't have the actual website updated maybe for the next few days because I am quite busy. If I must have the website itself updated could you tell me within the next few hours of this post??

I am a little annoyed that I can't have the php script for the school it would have made life really easy, but I must follow the rules. :(

Thanks anyway!

I went to look again, and it's fine the way you have it right now until you can update it.

As essellar posted in here, there are other ways/places that'll do what you want to do easily as well.

Thank you for your help!

---------- Post added at 10:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:23 PM ----------

I can't imagine Google Docs or something like the FogBugz/Kiln Student and Startup Edition being blocked (it's not like they'd make good porn servers) and DropBox ought to be available in any sane environment as well.

Google docs very surprisingly is blocked because is was categorised as 'personal storage and backup'

But thanks for the suggestion
