Hello,

I was wondering why the Netherlands is blocked? And if there is something that can be done in order to still apply for an account here, even tho i'm from the Netherlands?

Thanks in advance.

That's not enough, i expect a proper explanation, otherwise this can be classified as discrimination towards an entire country because just a few random people out of 16.1 million did something...

The usual reason for Western European nations being blocked is copyright law that is fundamentally incompatible with US law. That, unfortunately, leads to people using intellectual property on their site that may be perfectly legal in their home country, but illegal in the US. Since x10Hosting is under US jurisdiction, the sites it hosts are subject to US law (in addition to any law that may apply due to using a country-specific domain for the site). There is a large cost involved in processing things like DMCA takedown notices and other items submitted through the abuse@ email address, with essentially no revenue from free hosting accounts to pay for the administrative expenses. There is also a cost to policing and proactively suspending accounts for hosting infringing material. Again, it is a difference in understanding what is and isn't legal that is the primary source of problems, not necessarily malicious intent, but it occurs in such a large percentage of cases that it's simpler to block countries than to suspend the majority of users from those countries. This is a very different thing from countries where poverty and corruption have led (as it always will) to an industry of fraud, etc., but it is no less a problem for the host. It may not be fair to people who would be willing to play by the rules, but too many people say they will without actually taking the trouble to find out what the rules are. All I can say is that you should check back occasionally; the whitelist changes from time to time and there may be a new list of high-risk countries in the future. If you can create an account at a later date and avoid breaking the terms of service and acceptable use policy, then you would be able to keep your account alive even if your country is blocked again afterwards (we have many members with accounts in good standing from blocked countries).
