I have obtained a new domain. I have added the new domain name as an additional domain in DirectAdmin. So far, the new domain just redirect to the x10 site. DirectAdmin shows me that there is an index.html in the new domain's Public HTML folder, but attempting to go to url.com/index.html, I'm redirected to the x10 site, with a 404 (as index.html doesn't exist on the x10 site).

Domain pointer isn't working as both the x10 site and new domain are listed as domains on DirectAdmin. Or do I need to remove the new domain from DirectAdmin and use the domain pointer to point the x10 site to the new domain?

I was able to figure this all out years ago with the old cPanel, but now that it's gone...

You would have to remove the domain to add the domain pointer. A domain pointer is equivalent to a CNAME record; that is site1.example/index.html is the same file as site2.example/index.html, so this is not what you want. You want the original setting, which is a second site. Make sure the paths are set correctly; ~/domains/your_domain_name/public_html and private_html are the default folders for http and https, respectively. Make sure you don't copy something like .htaccess, which could make the 404 error happen if the physical path is invalid. Finally, if you still have problems, check your error log for more information

I found out the problem...had to change the name servers on the domain registers site (GoDaddy) to x10's name servers. That seems to have worked to get the domain to point to the proper directory on x10. No domain pointer or redirect involved.
