New hate crime legislation was signed in yesterday to protect gay, lesbian, transgender, and disabled people. What do you think?

I think this is a great step towards higher equality in America.

I don't really care what the government does, as long as the United States doesn't crash.

I don't particularly like this new legislation, as I don't like gay, lesbian, or transgendered people, but then again, it doesn't really matter because I'm not going to randomly go out and hurt someone for the sole reason that they're gay, lesbian, or transgendered.

Lol. I really don't have a problem with gay, lesbian, transgendered people. I actually have many close friends who are GLBT.

as long as the United States doesn't crash.

I do care what the government does, however, I also don't want them to crash it, lol.

I just find the way they act incredibly odd, and would rather not be involved with anything of the like. I'm sure there are gay or lesbian people that act completely non-gay or non-lesbian, and that I'm completely unaware of their orientation. As for those people, I guess it doesn't matter as much.

Yeah, some are more, different than others. I don't really know why some of GLBT people have awkward behaviors. Also, another reason to be interested in Psychology! :D

I remember a video of an experiment I saw somewhere where straight people were asked to identify a group of people and tag them as gay or straight based off their behavior. There were some individuals that were always identified correctly as either gay or straight, but there were some that a majority of the voters guessed wrong on.

Probably because men can be feminine and women can be manly. I don't think there's anything wrong with a guy being more sensitive than others. I also don't think there's anything wrong with a woman liking football, hunting, or any other man labeled activity.

Even if they are different than societal norms, it doesn't make them GLBT. There are many gay men who are extremely manly, many lesbian women who are extremely feminine.

:p

Yet another step away from free speech! Hooray for the 'free' 'unoppressed' West! Before you know it, it'll be illegal to talk bad about the government, or access anti-establishment websites.

Anyway, I thought the whole general idea these days was to try to mould people in to accepting everything as being OKay, instead of simply making it illegal to talk about it.

South Park predicted it right... we're gonna end up as some single gooback race!

True... if that act were to be making talking about it illegal. But all it does is give violence against these minorities the extra status of hate crime. There is nothing mentioned about speech on the page linked to. But yes, generally the Govts are taking away our freedoms... I wouldn't say so in this case though:
The law doesn't outlaw bigotry or "thought crimes."
