Not allowed to host PHP scripts on x10hosting?

First of all, I have nothing against x10hosting. Great hosting plan, CPanel, fast speed, but then I saw a comment that made me upset:

"PHP and Javascript are a bannable offense. If you try to host any forum, instant ban. If you try to FTP from two different computers, instant ban. You are not allowed to host any images that are already on Google Images as they use software to look for duplicates and automatically ban you if any duplication is found"

That's a pretty compelling complaint, I wouldn't want to be hosted somewhere where you can't have PhpBB or SMF. Who knows, maybe the person who made that quote didn't tell us the full story, maybe he broke the rules. We can't judge because it's only one person. But no, there's a bunch of people mentioning similar complaints:

"I got suspended immediately after trying to install vbulletin forums. The tos agrees with the use of VB and the support staff said it was ok, yet they suspend you everytime you try to install it... Admin was in my forum thread several times and still did not respond ONE TIME... They just read it and left. I'm disappointed in how pathetic this companies attempts at keeping customers was. Especially since I was testing to buy full/paid hosting."

Specifically he mentions that he tried to install vBulletin and was suspended every time he installed it onto his hosting account. Who knows, maybe his site was taken down for other reasons, maybe he didn't tell the full story, who knows. Here's the last quote I'm going to post.

Very general statement, who knows what happened.



Basically, I'm trying to be as fair as I can by understanding everyone's side to this. On paper this place sounds like a very good host, I'm just asking for an explanation for these complaints. I want to be able to code forums without my hosting getting suspended.

Lastly, no I'm not unsatisfied so don't say "If you don't like this place, then leave." because that's not what I'm implying. I'm only asking for an explanation.

You seem to have found some posts out on the Web.

Check out the Free Hosting forums and see if there is any validity to the complaints.

Do people have their accounts canceled for having a vBulletin forum? Not if it is legit. If it is nulled or has no license, yes. They are effectively using stolen property.

Are there sometimes problems with installing some scripts? Yes. With a huge amount of users on each server, some installs/updates are suspended for high resource usage. But most load without a problem. And the suspended ones are unsuspended and allowed to try again. HRU suspensions are not like ones for porn, warez, etc.

And PHP/Javascript being bannable offenses is laughable. It is what those scripts do that will get you in trouble.

Thanks for the quick response. That's all I was wondering. I didn't want to place any judgement because that wouldn't be fair for anyone. Now that everything is cleared up, I will start using x10hosting. Once again, thanks a bunch.

And yeah, I found those complains online.

descalzo is right. Why would x10 allow you to even install a PhpBB or SMF forum through Fanstatico if they do not allow them? Wouldn't they just remove them from the list if they didn't allow them? People will complain about a free service because it doesn't suit their needs 100% of the time. When in reality, almost all hosts even paid can only offer 99% up-time anyways. Not to mention always check out the person who is writing these reviews credibility. Can you find their name on the forum? How many post(s) do they have? I can't stand when you see someone with 2 posts saying the service is bad. N00bs can always make you think a service is bad because they have not been around long enough to notice things like, server announcements. Where they tell you something is wrong or you will not have access to something. If they only have 2 post, that means they do not hang around the forum any, and wouldn't see such notices.
