Well that goes for most products made by various companies; it's usually cheaper to buy something new than it is to repair

Thats what I would have said, send the place you bought a nasty well construvted e-mail stating what happened and what sony in your country is saying and requesting a address to ship the defective unit to.

I never buy anything from a company I do not know all about. If I were you, I would buy an mp3 player from a company that you KNOW has free technical support, and good support at that. No offense to India, but when an American company has their tech support in India...the support almost always sucks...so I would go with that. And I would buy a waranty, at least for a few months. If the mp3 player works for 2 months, it's almost a safe bet that it will continue working until you break it or it dies of natural causes.
Also, good companies usually focus on one product. Sony has its range scattered around, so usually, it is bad with most things, except what they have been working with the most (namely playstation). I would go with an ipod, zune, or samsung (yes, I know that samsung is for cameras, but my bro just got an mp3 player from there and it's amazing).

You haven't heard of Sony? They make some BluRay Player that happens to play a handful of games... Playstation 3 or something like that.

Of course I've heard of Sony xD But I've never really heard much about their MP3 players. They specialize in game-related hardware. That's what I mean - buy from a company that specializes in MP3 players. Like if McDonalds started producing refrigerators....I wouldn't buy one until they closed down their restaurants. xD

Since when? Are you out of the loop or what? Do you know what a Walkman is?

@OP: You could probably just email Sony and get it fixed or something. It won't cost them much and it's good PR. But as much as I dislike Sony, I have to admit they make some tough MP3 players. My friend's Walkman fell from a height of something like 30 metres and it still works, just some minor cracking.

*sigh* Well, that was kind of insulting, Face. Sony does not specialize in mp3 players. I don't CARE if they make some music things, it is not what they are best and and it is not what they are famous for. PS3 and Sony VAIO is what put them on the map. Can't you understand what I type?

Glasses are "in the loop". Get some.

No, because the Sony Walkman put Sony on the map. The VAIO is a minimal line, along with the PS3. Maybe if you said Playstation or Playstation 2 I'd believe what you say.

Edit:

Then they must have gotten worse at their mp3 playing production, because most people buy from Ipod and Zune now >.> I am talking about now, not before I was born.

Usually all electronic stuff are covered by a 30day manufacture warranty. You should have tried to tell them that heh

Oh, well, I bought a SuperSlim PRO (vaio) a while (several years) and past several years, drops, and blunt trauma, it is still working at 100%. I only love sony for what their vaio's used to be. Made in Japan. Not China.
