My hosting account has only two databases, even though x10hosting promises three, so I am requesting another MySQL database. I am on Starka.

Strange. One of my friends had an "example.x10hosting.com" free hosting subdomain account and he had 3 databases.

We previously offered 3 databases before we had the adfree-infinity plan.

Older users with an account created before unmetered disk space was introduced had the option to keep their old plan or upgrade to the new one. New accounts only get 2 databases, but unmetered disk space and bandwidth.

Well, that is disappointing. :frown:

And why did they need to slash the database numbers? How about recycling the databases from suspended accounts?

They slashed the database numbers because accounts were getting unmetered disk space and bandwidth instead. It used to be 1 GB disk space and 10 GB bandwidth, now its unmetered.

Personally, I think having unmetered disk space/bandwidth is better than one more database, especially since you can install many scripts in the same database. It doesn't really make a difference.

You can have multiple scripts use the same database. WordPress, Joomla, etc all allow you to use table prefixes so they can have multiple installations of the same script or different scripts use the same database.

You just have to make sure that if you already have a database igor_wp for WordPress with table prefix wp_, when you install Joomla, you also use igor_wp for a database, but something like jm_ as a table prefix.

Furthermore, almost every script you install has a default prefix, and really only needs a different prefix if you're installing multiple instances.

Ex:

Joomla = joom_
wordpress = wp_
Phpbb3 = phpbb_
SMF = smf_
IPB = ipb_
vB = vb_

Etc.
