opened new account acct and says invalid

I just went thru the process of opening a new account. Completed all the steps and received the the confirmation email. I clicked on the confirmation link (as requested) and it asked me for my acct. name and password.

I entered my acct. name and password and an error message popped up saying account name is invalid.

Why is this?

I went thru all the steps in the initial signup with no problems.
