Does paid hosting have the same problems as the free hosting? is it faster or slower than free hosting? Because I want premium hosting but only if my site won't take forever to load, won't be visibly affected (Slow-ass load times) by a few people using the site at the same time, I can actually use a php.ini file or something equivilent, and downtime nowhere near what I'm getting now.

Hi! the paid hosting plans are on different servers, and there are way less account on them compared to the free servers. So it's much faster, and doesn't have the same php restrictions as the free accounts do.

Way less, like few enough that my site wouldn't be down all of the time? Because I will definitely pay if that's the case.

Your site will be up a lot more than the free hosting plans if you have our paid plan.
The servers are more reliable and the uptime is a lot better on them.

An Error Has Occurred
Although you've logged in successfully, there was an error retrieving your account's hosting type from the backend system.

Please post on our forums to seek support on this issue

Uh.. What happened?
Edit:
Why was this marked resolved? I'm not finished with my questions..

Fuzzman,

The help you get in these forums used to be a lot better than it is now. I think the staff gets points for clicking the "resolved" button. Check out my "resolved" thread from over a week ago, which also ends with a question mark: http://forums.x10hosting.com/free-hosting/90280-php-mail-rejected-hotmail.html

As for paid hosting... I just bought a paid hosting account last week. Here's what I can tell you.

The Good:

1. Support is the best I've ever had, with any service I've ever purchased. When you start a support ticket, you get a thorough, well thought-out, and respectful response from Corey (the owner of x10hosting). Usually the response comes in two hours or less, unless Corey happens to be sleeping. And he won't quit helping until you tell him the issue is resolved. Here's a link to my support ticket so you can see what I'm talking about:

http://freeassign.net/phsoa/email_ticket.html
(note the lack of an "Are you sure your computer is turned on?" response)

2. Speed. The paid servers are much faster.

3. You can pay month-to-month (about $6) via paypal, so if you aren't happy, just quit paying the bill. Most hosts want you to pay for an entire year, and insist on a credit card.

The Mediocre

1. Downtime. Until tonight, my site had experienced zero downtime. But at some point this evening, the x10hosting nameservers went down. That took down all sites affiliated with x10hosting, including the paid sites, and this forum. The downtime lasted at least 2 hours. Nameservers are usually pretty reliable, so I don't expect that to happen often.

The Bad

1. The server they put me on is blacklisted as a spam server by most mail providers. Thus far, I've had zero success sending email from my site. Hopefully the problem will go away when Corey puts me on a new server this Friday.

Overall - I recommend you give it a shot. Even with the email problems, I'm a very satisfied customer so far.

- Bill

Thanks fuzzman,

Actually, I missed the php.ini question. I haven't tried, but I'm pretty sure you won't have access to that - since its usually one php.ini per server. If you let me know what customizations you're looking for, I can check my control panel and see if they're available.

But even if they aren't, Corey is good about figuring out some way to make things work for you.

It's okay that you missed it, I don't really care about it anymore. I just wanted to be able to change "max_input_time" but I found a different way to solve the problem. So you answered everything I needed to know. Thanks for all of you help, seriously.
