If your computer's dial up modem supports Voice via Software, and your computer has a mixer or the software you use to record the call, it's very possible. It's all dependent on your hardware however.

I say it on tv, on a documentary... It was a little thing that you plugged betweem the phone line and the phone, and that was plugged on the mic input. BTW I have a DSL broadband modem.

Or you could just use VoIP. Very easy to record a telephone message on the computer.

I could, but I already have a good deal with my normal line, and in Canada, only Videotron, if I am rigth, offers good VoIP. I am with Bell.

Ever heard of Skype? I believe they allow you to make outgoing calls for free since they are ad supported. From there you can use Skype to place a call, given you have a good amount of upload/download, good latency and no jitter on the line and you can record the call using something such as Audacity with the sound mixer coming in as recording (test it first). Otherwise, if you have a DSL line, that shouldn't make a difference if you're doing what I'm stating by plugging in your computer's dial-up modem if it does voice (probably unlikely) just as long as you have a DSL filter. Otherwise, the microphone technique will work if you have a speaker phone of course. And of course, the DSL modem can't do voice; only a digital signal.

Even some crappy old dial-up modems can do this if you can get hold of the right software...

Or you could bodge the end of the cable... but this is highly dangerous and not recommended: when the phone rings it's somewhere between 48VDC and 60VDC, depending on where you live... in the UK it's 50VDC, USA is 48VDC.

Also, be aware you can only have 4 standard devices (phone, modem, fax, etc., without a booster) connected to the phone line before you may experience problems. Either the phone won't ring, or your telecom provider may just temporarily disconnect you.

Honestly, I'd just use my microphone. But there are several other options: You could use Skype, or buy one of those fancy recording devices a lot of people use... dunno, though.

Obviously, you either mean you'd use your microphone and only record yourself (pointless!), or use your microphone and the phone's speakerphone facility.
