I am wondering how one would take say an emblem from Wikipedia and change the coloures and also adding a pattern such as this one (on the left). I know how to do the basic pattern but this seems too complex.

%20_2_~1.jpg
(I know I should be able to drag this to enlarge it but I'm forced to use IE right now, and you all know how much it sucks. There's still a link to the full size)

Oh, by the way I have Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, and CorelDRAW X5. What exactly is Illustrator used for really?

I think I understand your question but... I'm still not sure exactly what it is you'd like to do... If you could be a little more specific, I'm sure I can dig up a tutorial on how to do what you'd like to do that should help you out in the long run...

Hi

Illustrator is a vector base software, just like Marcomedia's freehand
The generated vector files are resolution independent.
No matter how big you enlarge a vector image it will not get pixelated.
Mainly for page layout, logo and illustration.
If you design a Logo, this is the software of choice.
