Yea, right now I'm pretty pissed and need to blow off steam.
So the other day(yesterday really), I was at work. I work in the graphics department of a publishing company. Anyways, we have this new girl there who is 21 and has some degree in graphics of some sort I beleive. Anyways, the other day I was messing with Photoshop and she started asking me if I've ever used Adobe Illustrator. I told her I've heard of it but never used it.
To speed up the story she basically starts telling me that Illustrator was way better and such. The issue was something she said about text. She claimed that in photoshop a problem was when you create text it is raster and it loses quality when you try to resize it, but it is vector in illustrator and there is no quality lost when resizing.
Of course this is BS because when you make text in photoshop it is vector and you must convert it to raster if you want to use it as such a layer. You can resize text and change the font, etc. all in photoshop and it works just as if you were doing it in notepad, no quality loss.
She was just sitting there denying it all and ignoring me trying to show her and it pissed me off.
The real thing that bothers me most is how there are so many people out there like her who think that if you have a degree then you are special. She honestly doesn't know much about photoshop and so refuses to beleive anything other than what she picked up from college.
I do not have a degree but this shouldn't make my knowledge any less true. I know more than most kids will ever learn in 20 years of college. I just hate when people think that they are superior or know more b/c of a silly degree. I'm in college know for computer programming and I honestly have either a) not learned anything from the classes or b) not be taught anything useful.
Essentially in college you have your isntructor who will teach based a curiculum(sp?), but they will also give their opinions. And when you learn this way then it is hard to understand or listen to other things from the millions of other people in your field.
I just can't let it go how ignorant some people can be some times. I honestly had the impression she was someone who knew a bit about computers, but I now realize she is no different from the other standard users out there in the world. I honestly know 12 year olds that know more about computers....
But today I'm going to start going all geek
I will just mess with HTML, JS and PHP stuff(coding in notepad) in my spare time instead of photoshop. For some reason when you code in notepad it looks 1337
