We will be upgrading PHP on all the Free Hosting servers, including Illuminated, this Wednesday. The upgrade is scheduled to begin at 2:00am UTC, and will likely take several hours. Brief, minimal service interruptions are expected throughout this time frame.

After the upgrade, all Free Servers (absolut, level, vox, and illuminated) will be set to run on PHP 5.5 as the default PHP version. PHP 5.3 and PHP 5.4 will still be available for users who cannot upgrade to PHP 5.5 at this time; instructions on how to switch your PHP version are available here. For Illuminated, PHP 5.2 will be available in addition to 5.3, 5.4, and 5.5. Please note that we do not officially support older PHP versions, and we do not guarantee this service from failure. You should always upgrade your scripts so that they run on the most recent version of PHP.

For more information on what sorts of changes you can expect from PHP 5.5, see the PHP 5.5 Migration Guide on php.net.

The update is now complete. If you experience issues with PHP 5.5, please open a support ticket so that we may assist you.

We're prepping all of the servers for the upgrade right now, this will probably take an hour or two but there should be no downtime due to the upgrade during this period. I will post additional status updates as they become available.

We've encountered an issue in the prep work for Illuminated that is preventing the upgrade from happening there. Please be patient while we investigate. There is no ETA on when we'll get this issue fixed but in the meantime the upgrade is on hold, apologies for any inconveniences this causes.

This is starting now, Illuminated is up first.

Downtime is expected while these upgrades are in progress. Please do not open any support tickets that your site is not loading/working while your server is being upgraded.

The upgrade is now fully complete on Illuminated, some minor issues were discovered that do not impact the running of user's websites, and will be fixed at a later date.

The upgrade is now starting on Absolut.

The PHP upgrade on absolut requires a cPanel upgrade, which is currently being performed. This is a minor version upgrade so no noticeable changes should happen on your end (version is being updated from 11.36.2.10 to 11.36.2.12). This will take quite a few hours to complete, so again the PHP update will be stalled until then. Should it take too long, the update will be put on hold until tomorrow.

PHP 5.5 is now being compiled on Absolut. We needed to upgrade the cPanel version to 11.38 for security updates, and that version upgrade is now currently happening on level and vox. The 5.5 install will be able to proceed on those once the updates finish.

PHP 5.5 has been installed on all free hosting servers, we are now doing some finishing touches but no further downtime is expected. If you notice something wrong with your website that indicates a PHP misconfiguration, please let us know about it by opening a support ticket so that we can track down all of the issues.
