PHP Upgrade pending after wordpress install

Yesterday morning (~7am EDT) I had installed wordpress onto my site. Trying to logon to the admin page gave the

error. Going back to the hosting account management panel showed my PHP version as Basic with "Upgrade Pending." It's been like that ever since. How long does it take to upgrade PHP?

Upgrade your PHP version to intermediate. You have basic.

OK, I've submitted the application...

I was under the impression that the "Upgrade Pending" message implied that it was already in process without my having to submit it manually.
