I'm very appreciative of the fact that x10hosting allows me to choose & change what version of php I want to use.
However, I am very much a newbie when it comes to knowing whether or not me changing my php version will break my site. I was able to change it from php 5.5 to 5.6 without breaking my site (thankfully), and I'm sure that I'm not alone in that fact.
But the main reason I'm posting this message is because I've read that using outdated & unsupported versions of php can be dangerous yet x10 allows users to use php 5.4 & 5.5. Up until last week I was one of those users using 5.5.
If this is true, why does x10 still continue to allow users the opportunity to use version 5.4? In addition there needs to be a cut off time for unsupported versions. Version 5.5 stopped being supported almost a year & a half ago. I would believe a suitable time to continue using an supported version would be 1 year. Which would have removed version 5.5 from x10 back in July of last year.
Version 5.6 is no longer in active development, but is still currently supported & security patches will be released when needed up until Dec. 31, 2018.
I use Joomla as the foundation if you will for my site. Even they are recommending you use php 5.6 & they are actively encouraging users to upgrade to 7.1. Some Joomla extension developers are now requiring that you run 5.6 or higher, otherwise you will not be able to upgrade your extension.
This is just food for thought. I did not mean to step on anyone's toes or offend anyone with this post.
