I have been able to set up my domain like this successfully:

1) in the cpanel at x10 - you addon domain (you domain webpages will now be in the new folder i.e. /xyz.com/ )
2) log into your domain web site and change the 2 dns servers at x10's servers

however this is not the best solution as its not using an A Record or C Name and it knocks out my email service for the domain if for example I have email allready setup in my domain controler (where I registered the domain).

when I use and A Record and C name it will not load my web page and loads a x10 error page. can someone explain if this is possible so I can retain control of my email and various other setting?

Please try adding nameservers instead of A/CNAME. Our nameservers are:

ns1.x10hosting.com
ns2.x10hosting.com

And also, I recommend your document root is in /public_html/xyz.com/
