Scenerio: Fifty years from now, in the year of 2056, our world will be confronted with a massive problem: there are simply too many humans on the planet for life to exist. How do you solve this problem?

--

I don't have a possible solution of my own yet, but I'm thinking 2/3 of the planet is covered with water and thus not inhabited by humans, and a large portion of the land on earth is uninhabitable (deserts, mountains, north+south poles).

Any suggestions?

I was contemplating a giant raft (like an air craft carrier) that would stay stationary, and move only to avoid bad weather and to catch rain fall if needed... unfortunately the resources to make something like this would be pretty harsh.

Thats pretty far fetched, living in a giant floating ship all your life would get so boring, and what about those people who get sea sick

Not just any ship, this thing would be massive: Likely the size of Puerto Rico. That said, people wouldn't feel the waves, thus not feeling sea sick ;) .

Also, anything is possible in the future. Even magic.

haha no magic or religiously motivated things will happen..

we will run low on resources, go to other planets, human population growth solved by china's concept of only having 1 child per family

plus, in the future, we'll have birth control medications that will be 100% effective :D

We have those now (well, at least pretty damn close), but many women chose not to use them out of fear of their bodies being damaged, or any other reason. Perhaps some kind of birth control medication for men would be helpful?

We gas people out, after giving them the chance of flying to the moon.

Anyone heard of space stations?

Massive Space stations which could cover the solar system. :)

Genocide.

Yeah, evidentually.

I don't know if it's their job, but the government should controll all the fixations of human beings. As in medicine to cure stuff. Yeah, it's good, but once they get a cure for everything, we'll have no cure for overpopulation.

True, it is a problem that too many people are living too long. True, it would terrific if there was a cure for every disease known to man, but that's not too good for the gene pool.

Exactly. As quoted by Carlos Mencia (comedian): "There's too many stupid people around and not enough people to eat them".
