PostgreSQL

I am trying to get Postgresql working on my site and am not sure if I am using the incorrect settings but I have created the database and user, then added the user to the database but my site cannot connect to the database.

Do you see a file named "error_log" in that directory? If you do, what does it say.

no I do not see an error log.

I believe it is saying that the hostname or ip of the database server is worng. What is the ip or hostname of the PostGreSQL server supposed to be?
Edit:
now I am no longer seeing that error, I am now getting an error that says call to undefined function pg_connect(). The only thing that has changed from today to yesterday is that I have upgraded to PHP Version 2. Do I need version 3 for pg_connect()?
