postition of index.html in directory

Hey!

My site is at http://sifaka888.x10hosting.com/ the problem I'm having is that (the html server?) is not finding my index.html page and displaying it. It only produces a list of all the folders and files in the directory. Do I have to place my index file outside all other folders in the public html folder? I thought you could place the index file anywhere in the public html folder, even if it were enclosed in another folder.
Thanks for your help. I googled this by using search strings such as "location of index file in web directory" and "position of index.html in web site" and found nothing. I also used the search feature on this our very own forum and didn't seem to find the answer.

It seems that you don't have any file by the name of index.html in the root folder i.e in the public_html folder. I see index2.html etc, You need to rename whatever file you want to open as index.html.

So the index file has to be in the public html folder. It cannot be in any subdirectories/folders located inside the public html folder?

Correct. If the index.html is in a folder then you would have to add that folders name to the end of your domain name url
