Preserving file permissions during switch from another host

Hey all,

I am moving from another provider (non-Cpanel) to x10Hosting.

I was wondering how to go about doing this. I know how to backup and restore the SQL databases I need, and I am familiar with FTP, but I am curious as to whether the file permissions will be preserved during the download/upload process. Obviously many scripts require that files be set to specific permissions, and if these attributes are removed during the FTP process, then I would want to find another way.

I'm guessing there is no easy way of doing this automatically?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
