problem with "username" for hosting registration

I'm working my way through the hosting registration. I had a minor issue with the sub-domain name which I resolved, but now I'm having problems with the user name. The "Confirm User Name Availability" button says that "rearbird" is available as a user ID, but when I go to the "register new account" I get an error stating that "Hosting account user name requested is already in use."

Looks like something got set when I first tried (and had the sub-domain name issue) but now it won't let me use the user name of choice.

Assistance would be appreciated.
