Hello, learned folk.................I have created a "website" using Serif Webplus X5..........when I preview the site using Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome browsers, it looks and functions fine; So now I want to load it onto "the web" so that I can test it and browse to it "real-time". I just want to test it at this stage
Ok, so I've registered on X10 for free hosting and I think, I just have to "load" the website to the "web".............????

Now I did title this post, "Proper Newbie"................for good reason............can somebody please tell me what I have to do now???

I hope I can get some help from you guy's............but while you think about it I have to run my grandson around, so Ill be back in an hour or so, to respond/react, to any or all suggestions..............(please don't be too hard on a poor old fella!!)

Thanks folks....................

Dave.

Hi Dave,

Welcome to x10Hosting! You can upload your website to x10Hosting by using an FTP program, such as FileZilla. At the top of FileZilla, you should be able to set some connection details.

Your "host" is riversidetestp.x10.bz, and your username is riversi4. Your password is the same as the one you use to login to your control panel. :)

Once you are connected, you should be able to drag your website files files from your hard drive to our server. All your website files need to go in the "public_html" folder. ;)

Thank you,

Hey, thank you very much for your quick reply.....I have spent the last, I don't know how long, getting nowhere! I tell a lie, I have installed FileZilla, and I seem to be connecting for a time, but it never seems to "populate" the "right column", and keeps reporting that it is; "not connected to any server", although it does say connected, in the top left dialogue box, until it times out the connection; (see screengrab)

I also cannot work out how to drag my site file (Riverside Test Site 27012015take2.wpp) into the Public-html folder, mainly because I can't find the folder, but I also wonder whether I'm barking up the wrong tree, and this idea will not work for a Serif X5 website?

What do you think?

Cheers, Dave.

Hi Dave,

Before you can upload your website, you will need to export your Serif X5 project. Fortunately, you can use Serif's "Publish Site" feature to do this. ;)

Please see this page for more information on how to publish your website with Serif:
http://www.serif.com/appresources/w..._previewpublish.htm#MT_previewPublish_publish

When using this option, you have the choice of either:
  • Saving the site as a "disk folder". Once you have done this, you can then use FileZilla to upload your exported website files.
  • Directly uploading your site from Serif itself, to FTP. If you choose this option, please ensure that you set the "Folder" to "public_html".

Additionally, I have fixed the "Connection timed out" error you were receiving yesterday, as this was an issue on our part. ;)

Thank you,
