Well, since this has been debated already, I guess I'll add my things into it again. Both handhelds support Wi-Fi in a matter of fact. Both can connect to access points, and both can create ad-hoc networks, but the DS, if you wish to use the internet, requires a game cartridge that needs to be bought I believe to use it. The PSP since firmware version 2.0 I think has had a built-in browser with flash capabilities, and as of recent, support for internet radio.

You also forgot some key capabilities as well. Unlike the DS, which is really only meant for portable gaming and some chatting on PictaChat, the PSP is also a DVD player, MP3/WMA player, a photo viewer, a digital camera station, along with an internet radio player, a portable TV, web browser, game system, AND a system capable of doing internet downloads for things such as videos to be played on the PSP.

The PSP does happen to have less battery life than the DS, but this is mainly because of the UMD drive, along with the hardware on PSPs. The UMD drive is very nice, which can read games and videos, and soon to me rumored Audio disks as well. It may be a bit slow, but it can hold quite a bit of data, and with that data, the PSP can deliver some stunning graphics, even if there is the occasional moment where you are overwhelmed with video "jaggies." The DS, while only using memory cards, can hold quite a bit of data too and can do things such as movies, given that there's an app for it and some games, there aren't too many games out there with graphics like the PSP.

Also, the PSP can have custom firmware installed on it. People have literally gotten Windows Vista to run on a PSP, along with Windows games and such using only custom firmware and original PSP hardware. Speaking of firmware, an advantage to the DS is that it seems as though all of the games can run on the original DS software. The PSP has to for some games be updated though, but it can all be done even without an internet connection when needed (via the UMD).

One plus about the DS is that there are more games that people seem to like, like Mario Cart, and more download and play games. The PSP doesn't have many of these though, but it's games are pretty fun.

And of course like Nintendo always is, they make their products cheaper than the other products. Not quality wise, price wise. PSPs are a bit more expensive, but they run for your money, given that you keep the battery charged :D

Overall in my opinion, the PSP has won. The DS would need some crazy redesigning/reprogramming by Nintendo for it to get in par with the PSP.

I have both handhelds and I use my DS more than my PSP. Who wants to watch movies on a PSP when you have a DVD player at home. Why not use your PC for the internet, not like you are going to get an unlocked network while you are away from your house. Also, DS has 10x better multiplayer capabilties compared to the PSP. I can get into a multiplayer game instantly on Mario Kart DS where as in GTA VCS I can't even find anyone to play with...
Oh and with the camera situation, I'd rather not pay extra for a simple addition to the already burden-to-carry object.

DS > PSP, IMO.

I would also agree that the PSP wins because of its video capabilities, better games, internet browser and etc.

I would however like to point out that they are aimed at slightly different audiences, I would say that the PSP is more for serious gamers and the DS is for people that just want to muck around and have some fun playing some more simple games. A PSP is more like an actual PC, because it allows more functionality for the user, while a DS is more of an old-school gameboy type handheld console that basically just plays games.

>>better games

How does the PSP have better games?
Ds has incredible games for all audiences.
Super Mario 64 DS, Mario Kart DS, Nintendogs, Metriod Prime: Hunters, Wario Ware, Mario and Luigi Brothers in Time, Mario vs DK 2, and the list goes on.

The PSP has God Of War and GTA VCS/LCS.

PSP has a lot more features though the DS has some classic games that people would never get tired of - like Mario for instance.

PSP has many features and is like having a mini-PS3. The DS has some interesting games, but many are titles and characters that have been milked by Nintendo for so many years.. I suggest ending their characters on a high note, rather than killing them off with their own respective sports game.

I have both, and I have to say that although I love my DS dearly, the PSP is far better. For one reason and one reason alone: emulation ^^

I'm able to play not only PSP games on my PSP, but PS1 too. And that is worth more than anything, IMO. There's too many PS1 gems to miss out on.

Having said that, the DS does have Pokemon, lol :D

I have both, but I have to say that my PSP has turned into my portable media machine because I haven't had any good games for it recently. Ever since I hacked the thing I've been doing a lot of homebrew apps like the google maps program or using Opera over the included web browser.

I believe that the DS games are much better since most of the time I have to play games on the road occur in short chunks (15 mins or so) and the DS has a lot of games that I can play a level or two in that time frame. In the psp, all of the action games or RPGs take hours just accomplish anything and those arcade style games are really horrible. (WTF, Hard Rock Casino, etc.)

The PSP is the more powerful and more logical choice, but Nintendo's DS is different than most normal hand held consoles because of it's dual screens. It's price is also one that is not to be beat. Even though the PSP could give better quality people still want to DS because it is different and that is enough to make kids like it. In short, because it's different and illogical kids love it and beg their parents for one.

Thats the whole point. What does the Nintendo Ds have? The PSP is way better, cause it has different types of fun games instead of Super AMrio this, Super AMrio that, Mario Bros and just other mario titles and some other random games whihc are fun but not unique compared to the style of PSP games. I'm not against DS though, I like DS but I prefer the PSP more!

Lmao! What game on the PSP beats the mario games on DS?
I can only think of one, God of War.
You fail.

Except that its a much better game on a larger console or on the PC.

Although I'm highly biased because I mostly play PC games. ;)
