Hello, I hope this is the correct subforum to post this...

I don't understand the ToS about file hosting...

I have created a support site for a tablet, and I want to host the firmware files. Is that allowed? The firmware files are also hosted on the manufacturer's site but the downloading speed is not good (about 8kb/s).

Right now I am providing links to the site, so I won't violate the ToS..

By the way there is no copyright infrigment involved, the firmware files are free to distribute and modify..

Thank you,
Vincenzo

Do you have the right to redistribute the files?

I would also make sure that the files are hot link protected so that they can be downloaded via your site only.

yes they are android firmware files, so they are free to distribute and modify.. many people upload them it their homepages... I've searched the manufacturer's website, there is nothing that says don't re-distribute the files.

I just confirmed today that the firmware files are free to redistribute by e-mailing the manufacturer.
So is it okay to upload them on my site?

Yup; if they're okay with redisting them, then you're golden as long as you remember to link to them from somewhere on the site so they're not "orphaned files" :)

And congrats on actually doing the legwork to make sure it's legit. Judging by how many suspensions we get, you can probably guess how many folks don't do the legwork and find out the hard way that what they were doing wasn't legal :)
