Hello,

I'm sorry if this is a useless topic, but I've read most of the documents about free hosting plans avalaible at this site, and this question is still unclear to me. What I liked to ask is if I'm able to create multiple accounts to host my projects here (always talking about free plans). I mean, there's several hosting services, even some free ones, where you able create more than one account. so that's why I liked to know if this is something possible to do here.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards!

P.S.: Congratulations for the new forum layout. XenForo has a very cool design, indeed.

Yeah, I read that. But for example, if I register another account, that would cause me a ban, right?

Thank you for answer.

Considering that X10Hosting free has unmetered (unlimited, with restrictions) disk space, you could probably have a hundred websites if you do things right :p

For example, you could have many forums installed using only one database by using table name prefixes. It's a little cumbersome to deal with having so many tables in a database, but you also have to consider that you cannot reference files or databases from one account to another account, which could be a problem if one of your projects needs to reference another.

[edit]

Violating the terms of service will always result in account suspension and eventual deletion.

That's interesting, Garrett, I never thought that way. Nice answer!

If I'm not mistaken you can do that with the database, though you can't add another domain, is that right?

Sorry if this is basic stuff, guys, but I needed to know this since I have a few projects that I wanted to host here.

Regards.

I don't think there is a way to use more than the allocated domains; at least, I can't think of one right now.

I think if you have so many projects, it may be easier to keep track of everything if you use example.com/project1 and example.com/project2 instead of unrelated domains. It sounds like you may be worried about SEO, but I think you might benefit more from having one strongly optimized site than a hundred less optimized sites.

I'm not sure how you're planning on doing all this, but you might want to consider using Wordpress' mutlisite plugin: http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

You can have a different theme, different content, and different plugins for each site, but manage everything centrally. I hate to promote myself (ok, maybe not :p) but I use that for my set of sites (that aren't very good or active):
http://gjr.gr http://gjr.gr/server and http://gjr.gr/liquidphp . There's one control panel for all of these sites, which makes management a breeze.

[Edit]

Also, if you use the mutlisite setup, then you can change your mind later and have all those sites on their own domains or subdomains. By that time, you may be looking at upgrading to X10 Premium, which would allow you to host unlimited sites, or maybe X10 Free would support something like wildcard subdomains, which would allow you to do what you originally wanted.

Mmmm I'm thinking on doing what you suggest, combining it with other external domain service. Let me explain:

If I have "example.com/my-science-related-site", maybe I can use an external domain service, like, dot.tk, for example, with the domain as: "my-science-related-site.tk". Then if I want to have a music site, I would go for example.com/my-music-related-site, and then with dot.tk domain as "my-music-related-site.tk".

I think that that might be a good idea, but I don't know if it'll work that way, I don't even know if it's Ok to do so, regarding the ToS. Is that ok?

Thanks for your answer, and sorry to bother this much xD!

P.S: Thanks for that wp link, will check that tool, too.

The problem with DNS its that it only can point to the actual domain, not the path. Even with a DNS service, you can only point my-science-related-site.tk to example.com, not example.com/my-science-related-site. You still need a unique domain on X10 for each .tk domain you would like.

I can't think of a ToS problem you'd encounter. There's a possibility you will use too many resources up if you host a lot of websites from one account, but by that point in time you will have outgrown X10Hosting free anyway.

Mmm, I remember to see a .tk domain which pointed to a a site with a decent long path, like: gamingclansite.com/guilds/guildname with the guildname.tk as a custom domain. Maybe that's posible with dot.tk, dunno really.

Anyway, now everything's clear for me.

Thanks for your support!

Regards.
