I work for a rent-to-own company and work on desktop support/virus removal/"keep the customer happy and keep their computer fast" business. Recently a lot of computers have come back with a decent amount of malware/spyware stuff like that. Not difficult to remove, but, each time I inspect a computer, this program is always there: KNCTR. It's apparently a social-media app? I'm not familiar with it and was wondering if anyone could take me to school on KNCTR. ( I know a lot of malware has come from the adobe flash player. That I can handle, but it just seems too much of a coincidence that KNCTR is on there too )

It's sort of a "Skype substitute" (media-enhanced VoIP), and I can't find any reports of known exploits or vulnerabilities. The correlation between KNCTR installs and malware is probably an indication of usage patterns rather than the software itself -- KNCTR occupies a "younger, hipper, stick-it-to-the-man" market niche than its approximately equivalent platforms, and is more popular among youngsters, gamers and risk-takers than it is among staid adults and people who are fundamentally afraid of breaking their computers by pressing the wrong button on "the Googles".

mountaindew,

KNCTR, acronym for 'Connect Center'. It's an all-in-one communication suite. See here for more info.
