I have installed the Boonex Dolphin script from the script installer and I am unable to use the Flash uploader to upload videos for my band website. It gives me this error when uploading:

Warning: popen() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/erydamus/public_html/v2/flash/modules/video/inc/functions.inc.php on line 198

Even the regular video uploader gives me an error but it doesn't show this. Why do I get this?

As stated in the Warning message itself, we cannot allow our users to use popen() on the free hosting servers. This is because it is used to essentially run a shell script, which is not permitted on free hosting, as well as opening up a lot of vulnerabilities.

However, I do not see why a simple uploader script would actually need to use popen().

I have no idea. When uploading, it loads for a minute like it's trying to upload then shows a video upload error. I've done a fresh install several times and no change. I can upload the same video using a video extension from Joomla but for some reason, Dolphin won't work. The file attached shows what I'm getting. I've searched the internet for a solution but all I found was maybe the file was over my hosting's max limit but I don't think so if I can upload with Joomla and not Dolphin.

Dolphin doesn't just upload, it also transcodes the video. Looking at the system requirements at http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/DolTech it seems that Free Hosting is a very poor fit for the software; you have neither the memory nor the script execution time required for some features, and you don't have the permissions or PHP ini settings you need for others. (And before you ask, Softaculous doesn't provide a list of software recommended by the host for the platform; it's a third-party collection of installers, not all of which are suitable for Free Hosting.)
