recompile php in xampp

how do I recompile PHP in xampp/lampp on linux? there is no configure or make file at all, not even in the dev pack

I'm pretty sure you just need to download the newest distro from php.net and replace the existing directory

nah, I just dled the developement package, and it took 2 - 3 hours or so to recompile it

I believe that you can download additional packages, and add them.
