My bouncer ip just got banned from the irc server for a so called 'open proxy'. There is no open proxy, but it appears services did not like port 8000 being open on the router my friends server is on. I have now changed the bnc to listen on a different port, and closed port 8000 on his router.

Can an admin unban the ip please? It's not the ip i'm posting from, but when an irc admin replies to this post, I will pm the ip.

The system not only attempts to open a connection, but it then attempts to use the proxy. IF it can THEN it bans you, if i remember correctly. Which BNC software are you using.

I'm using nightlight irc proxy (http://freshmeat.net/projects/ircproxy/) I'm not sure exactly how it would be able to use it, since it's both password and ident protected. Anything that tries to use it without the correct ident and password is kicked off automatically.

It looks like it's definately an ip ban, as i've just tried connecting without it, and I can still get on the server.

As I said, it was fine up until I changed the port it runs on to 8000. Now I get:

12:15 !dell.hsd1.ar.comcast.net. Connection x10hosting: Received ERROR:
"Closing Link: csc2ya[A][c-68-51*.hsd1.ar.comcast.net] (User has
been banned from x10Hosting (An HTTPPOST open proxy was found on port
8000 from your host. Please see
http://secure.irc-chat.net/op.php?f=opsb&t=6&p=8000&ip=68.51*))"
from server irc.x10hosting.com(99.198.122.4):6667 "irc.x10hosting.com"
12:15 !dell.hsd1.ar.comcast.net. Connection x10hosting: EOF to
irc.x10hosting.com(99.198.122.4):6667.

Even after closing port 8000 on the router.

I haven't posted the full ip of the bnc for obvious reasons, but as I said, I can pm it if needed.

Edit: To show that it doesn't allow poeple on unless the person has both the correct ident and pass:

This is for no response at all, which is likely what the proxy scanner would do.
