Why the gateway / introduction page instead of just having your forum immediately open up?

To give an intro plus rules before going to forum. I could have put a rules section in the forum but felt like doing it this way and I like the colors and picture.

I see. Thanks for the explanation. That is a little different but not a bad idea. May consider using a similar concept on one or more of my own forums.
