Server slowness

I have a problem with my site on x10hosting, sometimes it is very slow to access the server. I have some .php pages and an SQL database. Accessing both of these can sometimes take seconds.
Is there any way to speed this up? Or is it just inevitable when using free hosting?

There are some things you can do to speed up PHP, searching on Google will reveal some tips on optimizing your scripts.
But the main cause is that the Free Servers have thousands of accounts on them, if you need the speed then I recommend upgrading to paid hosting.
